The Phenomenons: The Wind And Fire

The Phenomenons: The Wind And Fire

Georgina Pinkerton, the crime boss behind the vicious and corrupt Captains of Industry, has reason to hate the costumed heroes known as Phenomenons. That hatred has spawned a slew of hideous experiments, each designed to produce a Phenomenon-killer—though none of them have done what Pinkerton hoped they would.

At the same time, Pinkerton has attacked the Phenomenons’ power sets, making it more difficult for them to fight back. The speedster Torque’s extraordinary abilities have become erratic. Revek, mainstay of the super-hero cadre known as United Front, can no longer rely on his unique magnetic-field tech. Better Angel, once the most formidable of the Phenomenons, seems to have lost her powers for good.

Now Pinkerton’s come up with a new, improved generation of super-powerful henchmen. Known as Counters, they’ve got the Phenomenons on the run. It seems like just a matter of time before Pinkerton gets her wish and the Phenomenons are wiped out.

Then something happens that even Pinkerton didn’t see coming—and the Phenomenons are given a chance to pursue one last desperate gamble in a tenuous and unlikely bid for survival!

In creating the Phenomenons, we’re buoyed by the considerable talents of some of the most inventive science fiction and fantasy writers around: Ilsa J. Bick. Michael A. Burstein. Russ Colchamiro. Peter David. Keith R.A. DeCandido. Mary Fan. Michael Jan Friedman. Robert Greenberger. Dan Hernandez. Paul Kupperberg. Alex Segura. Hildy Silverman. Omar Spahi. Geoffrey Thorne. Marie Vibbert.

Mary Fan

Mary Fan writes things with spaceships, spells, monsters, and mayhem. And sometimes kissing. Like Starswept (YA sci-fi romance), the Jane Colt trilogy (space opera), the Flynn Nightsider series (YA dystopia/fantasy), the Fated stars series (YA high fantasy), and the Chevonne & Sherlock tales (YA sci-fi mystery).

Mary is a lifelong nerd, shameless font aficionado, and terrible model minority. She wasted her Princeton education on a music degree. She stands for diversity in books and more girls in STEM. Because of the latter, she's also the co-publisher of the Brave New Girls YA sci-fi anthologies about brainy heroines (sales benefit the Society of Women Engineers scholarship fund). Clearly, she's ruining sci-fi/fantasy and destroying America.

She currently resides in Jersey City, NJ, and will take on anyone who dares badmouth her state--particularly smarmy New Yorkers--in a violin battle.
